Place Digital was once TherapieSEO, the thoughtful brainchild of SEO savant Kristie Plantinga. The team helps mental health professionals grow their practice through smart, results-driven marketing. A bit of brand guidance helped turn this shop from a successful one-woman-show to a full-blown boutique agency ready to take up space.

With a clear vision for the future in place and some existing brand equity to consider, a brief framework with a name and logo exploration was all they needed to bring the company into its next evolution.

More than a vendor.

As the best entrepreneurial ventures do, TherapieSEO set out to fill a void in the marketing landscape. Most digital marketing and SEO companies can be either solo consultants with limited specialties, or large-scale entities with inconsistent service.

TherpieSEO offered the best of both worlds: a dedicated level of expertise and forward-thinking that you’d get from the big guys, with the personable relationships and nimble operations of a smaller partner.

Kristie originally signed up for a branding session set up like a sprint and focused on the logo only, which I was happy to do. As the direction the company was moving in became clearer, we discussed also adding a strategic framework to help the new name and logo draw the right audience for their growing goals. The framework grounded us in where they are vs. where they want to be. And the language inside the framework delivered the positioning, storytelling, and brand platforms to help them get there.

What do we call it?

It was time for TherapieSEO to go a bit bigger, which translated to a brand name that communicates a broader scope of expertise. Studio Parkside has a tried-and-true naming process that helped the team select an ownable naming convention that suited our fresh strategy.

We settled on Place Digital, which does a few things well:

  • Starts with the goal of helping practitionersfind their place

  • References the team’s expertise of all things digital marketing

  • Communicates a boutique brand that’s both fresh and simple

New opportunities build a new look.

The name was locked and trademarked. Now it was time to explore what Place Digital looks like. When building an identity, the strategies we identified in the area of opportunity and framework directly influence every decision. Our framework pinpointed two major areas of opportunity to stand out against competitors: be a boutique partner, and be part of the new school of digital marketing. These became the launchpads for our visual storytelling.

I laid out two identity options that helped the client see how elements of our framework get colored in.

These previews get reactions, and that’s the point. We quickly understand what fits and what we don’t like. And this feedback helps full-send the brand identity into something we all love.

Does this result in the industry-feared proverbial Frankensteining of brand design? Yes. Very often. Do I mind? Not really. I’m here to guide my clients towards strategic, thoughtful expressions of their business. These expressions should speak to various audiences on multiple levels. Sometimes we have to scramble a few eggs. And the best time to do it is before you graphic design anything.

Putting it in practice.

The final design concept really delivered on something we all loved. A core family of new logos and a tight set of relevant executions grounded in the positioning and future vision brought Place Digital into their next phase.

The customized letterforms in the Place Digital wordmark outline our integrity, our wisdom, and the leader archetype that promises hard work and big thinking to our audience of health practitioners.

“Michael did a deep dive on my business, industry, clients, and competitors, resulting in a unique and authentic product that I can't wait to share with the world. With my new branding in hand, I feel reinvigorated in my company's mission and all the possibilities that the future holds.”
